Active Research Projects 

The list of active SMRI research projects, all funded by membership dues, as of 18 January 2017:

(1) RFP 2013-1 “Safe distance of caverns to a domal boundary”, by DEEP Underground Engineering GmbH, completion anticipated in 2017.

 (2) U2013-1 “Very slow creep tests to verify cavern creep rate”, by Ecole Polytechnique (via FX-Conseil) & sub-contractors, draft report in review process. 

 (3) U2014-1 “HFCSSC Phase IIC – Cyclic thermal loading creep tests” by RESPEC & sub-contractors, completion anticipated in 2017.

 (4) U2014-2 “Hanging strings dynamics – Phase III” by McGill University,  completion anticipated late 2017.

 (5) U2015-2  “Update of SMRI’s compilations of salt deposits and cavern fields” by KBB-UT & sub-contractors,  draft expected early 2017.

 (6) RFP2015-1  “Database for past cavern incidents, phase I” by GEOSTOCK & sub-contractors

18 January 2017 Listed are SMRI research projects completed in recent years, with research report (RR) file numbers shown, all reports are in the library for logged in members. The Executive and Research Committees have decided to include a public summary of some recent projects, useful for both members and the public.
